For me, Constable’s Tower is one of those views that reflects the true character of Dover Castle. It is bold, historic, atmospheric, and instantly connected to the story of the town. Through photography, the detail of the tower, the texture of the stone, and the sense of age within the structure help bring this remarkable part of Dover’s heritage to life.
Dover Castle itself was extensively developed under Henry II in the late 12th century, with further outer defences completed in later reigns, helping create the powerful fortress visible today.
Photographing Dover Castle Across the Town
One of the most remarkable things about Dover Castle is how visible it is throughout the town. From the seafront and harbour to surrounding hills, residential streets and open green spaces, the castle constantly appears within the landscape.
