How to Get to Dover Castle

Dover Castle is located on Castle Hill Road, Dover, overlooking the town, harbour and White Cliffs.

By car, follow the signs for Dover Castle from the A2 or A20. The road up to the castle is steep in places, but the views across Dover are worth it.

If travelling by train, the nearest station is Dover Priory. From there, you can take a taxi or walk through the town towards Castle Hill, although the walk is uphill.

Dover Castle is close to Dover town centre, the seafront, the Port of Dover and the White Cliffs, making it a perfect stop during a visit to the area.

Dover Castle itself was extensively developed under Henry II in the late 12th century, with further outer defences completed in later reigns, helping create the powerful fortress visible today.

Photographing Dover Castle Across the Town
